The AEP Texas Foundation continues to support families in need with a $2,400 grant for the Wilbarger County Child Welfare Board (WCCWB). The grant will help provide Christmas gifts for all the foster children in the county. Vernon Distribution Supervisor Tory Smith said he is honored to work for a company that helps an organization that once helped his family.
“Our oldest son is actually adopted so this is something that’s very near and dear to our hearts,” Smith said. “This organization does some really good things for the community so it’s great to have a part in giving back.”
Tory and Lindsey Smith began fostering their son, Jace, when he was only two days old and officially adopted him when he was two years old. During this time, the welfare board supported their family by providing financial assistance for Jace’s everyday needs as well as gifts for his birthday and Christmas.
“Our organization provides funding for each child placed in care to cover back to school costs, initial placement, Christmas gifts (based on their needs and wish lists), birthdays, and special requests,” said Amanda Harris, President of WCCWB. “We could not do the work we do without the support of our community and grants from organizations like AEP. We appreciate your generous support of our cause.”
