AEP Texas drone donation exposes Corpus Christi students to new technologies

June 8, 2026

A drone donation from AEP Texas will help Roy Miller High School students soar in their STEM education by providing hands-on access to emerging technology. In Corpus Christi, the Telecommunications team donated former mapping drones to support the school’s drone pilot program. The school plans to use them to enhance its engineering, technology, and career-readiness curriculum. Employees presented the drones and gave students and teachers an up-close look at the technology the company uses to maintain reliable service for customers.

Regional External Affairs Manager Gricelda Calzada said Roy Miller High School was chosen for its commitment to student success and technical education, and for being the first school in the district to have a female student earn her drone pilot license.

Students were excited about the opportunity to work with new technology, and teachers highlighted the value of the AEP Texas partnership, noting that the donation brings real-world tools into the classroom.
