While driving near Aransas Pass, service mechanic Michael Cornell spotted heavy smoke and immediately assessed the scene, recognizing that both power lines and nearby residents could be at risk during active fire-weather conditions.
He checked in with the fire chief and stood by to disconnect or de-energize equipment if needed, remaining on scene until the blaze was about 95 percent contained. The fire came within 20 feet of a small RV park, but neither the park’s property nor AEP Texas’s utilities were damaged, and the fire chief appreciated AEP Texas' readiness to act.
Being on site and prepared can make the difference in protecting customers, infrastructure, and communities.
