Workers are on standby, available and ready to respond to potential severe weather impacts from Tropical Storm Bertha as it moves closer to the Texas Gulf Coast.
Across the Corpus Christi District, storm readiness efforts include opening strategic staging sites and a gateway receiving center in Corpus Christi for external business partner crews. Vegetation management also continues in coastal communities ahead of the storm’s arrival.
Available resources include line and service workers, support personnel and dedicated tree trimmers.
While Tropical Storm Bertha’s exact path remains uncertain, AEP Texas is prepared to respond to customer outages across the Corpus Christi, Rio Grande Valley and Laredo Districts.
As the storm approaches, AEP Texas reminds customers to keep the following safety tips in mind:
- Customers who rely on life-support systems or other electric-powered medical equipment should have a backup plan in place in case of prolonged outages. Make arrangements now, before severe weather arrives.
- Always assume downed power lines are energized and dangerous. Do not touch anything in contact with a line, including trees, fences or standing water. Stay at least 10 feet away from any downed power lines and keep children and pets inside immediately after the storm.
- Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions when using portable generators.
