As Tropical Storm Bertha moves toward landfall on the Texas coast, AEP Texas has completed key positioning activities to support a safe and efficient response. Line crews, support personnel and vegetation management resources are staged across the Corpus Christi District, with particular focus along the mid-Texas coast. Depending on the storm's final path, customers in the Rio Grande Valley, Corpus Christi and Laredo districts should prepare for heavy rain, strong winds, possible localized flooding and potential power outages.
Four staging sites are now operational across the Corpus Christi District, and the gateway receiving center in Corpus Christi has entered its second day of onboarding external business partner crews. Vegetation management activities continue in coastal communities to reduce potential storm-related risks and support safer, more efficient restoration efforts.
AEP Texas encourages customers to complete their own preparations, including confirming backup arrangements for medical equipment, securing outdoor items and identifying safe locations in the event of severe weather
As the storm approaches, AEP Texas reminds customers to keep these safety tips in mind:
- Customers who rely on life-support systems or other electric-powered medical equipment should have a backup plan in place in case of prolonged outages. Make arrangements now, before severe weather arrives.
- Always assume downed power lines are energized and dangerous. Do not touch anything in contact with a line, including trees, fences or standing water. Stay at least 10 feet away from downed lines, and keep children and pets inside immediately after the storm.
- When using portable generators, always follow the manufacturer’s instructions and operate them safely.
