AEP Texas Prepares for Severe Weather Across Its Service Territory

October 1, 2026

AEP Texas crews are prepared to respond to outages that may result from heavy rain and severe weather forecast across the company’s service territory beginning Thursday and continuing into the weekend.

In areas of central and south Texas expected to experience the greatest impacts, AEP Texas has taken the following steps to prepare:

  • AEP Texas crews and business partner crews are on standby and ready to respond to outages in their assigned areas.
  • Vegetation management and tree-trimming crews have been activated.
  • Storm assessment teams and support personnel are on alert and ready to respond.
  • All fleet, line and service trucks are stocked with supplies and fuel and are ready to deploy as needed.

In addition, administrative support personnel are carrying out preparedness plans and coordinating with local emergency management officials and key stakeholders throughout the AEP Texas service territory. AEP Texas encourages customers to remain alert as the storm moves across the state.

AEP Texas reminds customers to follow these important safety tips:

  • Always assume downed power lines are energized and dangerous. Never touch a downed line or anything in contact with it, including trees, fences or standing water. Stay at least 10 feet away, and keep children and pets indoors immediately after the storm.
  • Report safety hazards, downed power lines or tree hazards at aeptexas.com/outages or by calling 866-223-8508.
  • Customers can sign up for free mobile outage alerts at aeptexas.com/alerts or access the AEP Texas Outage Map.
