More than 900 runners took to the tarmac at Corpus Christi International Airport for Run The Runway, a 5K and 1K race presented by AEP Texas and the AEP Texas Foundation that raised more than $76,000 for Wings of Texas — surpassing the nonprofit's entire annual operating budget in a single day.

It is the second year since AEP Texas became involved with the event that the race has outpaced the organization's annual budget.

Wings of Texas works to "make the Coastal Bend a more inclusive place to live, work, play and learn for people of all abilities." The money raised will buy new adaptive sports equipment for local sporting events and fund educational programming that helps individuals with disabilities and their caregivers advocate for the best possible outcomes for their families.

The final total was announced at a recent Corpus Christi City Council meeting, where AEP Texas Communications Director Omar Lopez joined representatives from Wings of Texas and the airport. City Manager Peter Zanoni and council members recognized the group for bringing the event to the Coastal Bend.
