AEP Texas employees came together to support the third annual Dyess Dove Hunt which provides a free guided dove hunt for active-duty airmen. AEP Texas External Affairs Manager, Luke Roberson created the event in 2024 to thank Airmen for their service.
“This dove hunt has been very special to me,” he said. “I come from a military family, and I just have such a heart for these guys. I know what they do, I know how they have to leave their families. I know what it’s like to move to a different place, so it’s always been a passion of mine to take care of the folks that are here protecting us every day.”
This year there were 65 airmen, eight guides, eight local sponsors, and four landowners who offered free use of their properties for the hunt. Volunteers for the event included the Taylor County Judge, Abilene Military Affairs Council Chair, Texas General Land Office field rep, a Wylie ISD board member, and active duty from Dyess.
Although the Dyess Dove Hunt is not a nonprofit and does not rely on financial support, AEP Texas served as the host site and four employees as well as an AEP retiree volunteered their time to help with registration and logistics.
