AEP Texas recently engaged with the Abilene Fire Department’s Citizen Fire Academy, a seven-week, invitation-only immersion that highlights the training, operations and challenges faced by first responders. The program included multi-station briefings, dispatch familiarization, ride-alongs, and practical exercises spanning HAZMAT, emergency medical response, technical rescue and water rescue.

Hands-on training exposed participants to firefighting tools and techniques, such as hose operations, thermal imaging, extrication equipment, structural entry and high-angle operations. These trainings provided a clear view of the operational readiness and coordination required in emergency response.

AEP Texas participation, represented by External Affairs Manager Luke B. Roberson, underscores the company’s commitment to community partnerships and mutual understanding between critical infrastructure providers and public safety agencies.
