Instinct took over when two AEP Texas lineworkers saw a car on its side, and they quickly jumped into action to help.

Line Crew leader Aaron Lusk and Line Mechanic- B Tanner Collett were on their way to a trouble call in the middle of the night when they spotted a vehicle on its side in the ditch on the service road.

Lusk turned on the strobe lights and blocked the lane with their truck. He ensured the car was stable before climbing in, where he discovered a child and a woman were inside.

While a bystander called 911, Lusk and Collett opened the vehicle to check on the passengers.

“We assisted the child and put her in the truck with the heater on since she was wet, and the outside temperature was 45-50 degrees. Once we made sure the woman was stable enough to climb in, I moved the seats to make room so she could move and get out,” Lusk said.

As Lusk and Collett were rescuing the woman and child from the car, the paramedics and fire department arrived to assist and take over.

“I was nervous when we realized there were people in the vehicle, not knowing how bad the situation might have been,” Lusk said.

Fortunately, the woman and child suffered no major injuries.

Lusk and Collett demonstrated incredible bravery, highlighting the importance of acting in emergencies. Their courage and quick thinking ensured that everyone involved was in safe hands.

Lusk hopes this inspires others to stop and respond in similar situations.

“I would want someone to do the same for me or my family,” Lusk said.

This Good Catch was voted Best Good Catch of the Second Quarter by the Abilene District Safety Committee.
