AEP Texas Winter Storm Restoration Progress Thursday, Feb. 3, 11:30 a.m.

February 3, 2022

As of 11:30 a.m., approximately 3,200 AEP Texas customers were without power, predominantly in the Cisco community near Abilene and the Ballinger/Winters area.

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) is continuing its Storm Watch, which is the highest level of readiness, short of emergency conditions.

We understand the frustration that going without power can create. Our central focus following a major storm is the safe restoration of power as quickly as possible. Our crews are working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.

The number of outages will go up and down as the storm continues over the next few days.  By visiting the Outage Section on AEPTexas.com, you can view a real-time outage map that will confirm if we are aware of your outage.  Please note that the estimated restoration times shown on the map are initial projections and can change.

Highest Concentration of Outages as of 10:30 a.m.

Abilene District (including Cisco area)                                         1,370
San Angelo District (including Ballinger/Winters area)              1,720

Please remember:

  • All power lines should be considered energized and dangerous.  Please report downed power lines by calling 1-866-223-8508.
  • Although a downed line may look harmless, it could be carrying electricity. Don’t touch anything in contact with the line, such as trees, fences of puddles of water. Because of the likelihood that the storm will cause many lines to fall, customers are asked to keep their children and pets inside during and after the storm.
  • If you use a portable generator, do not plug the generator into your circuit box. Portable generators “back-feed” electricity up the line and risk the lives of repair workers and the public. Plug appliances directly into the generator.  Also, always follow the manufacturer’s instructions.  Make sure backup generators are located outside the home and away from open windows in order to prevent the possibility of carbon monoxide poisoning.
  • Icy roads and other inclement conditions can slow the restoration process.  You can view a real-time outage map, which will indicate if we are aware of your outage.  Please note that the estimated restoration times shown on the map are initial projections and can change.
  • If you do lose power, please unplug or turn off your heating system, washers, dryers and other major appliances and electronic equipment like televisions and computers. Turn them on one at a time over a 15-20 minute period when power is restored.
  • In case of a power outage, keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible to keep cold air inside. Food should stay frozen for 36 to 48 hours in a fully loaded freezer, 24 hours in a half-full freezer – if you keep the door closed.

Thank you again for your patience as this restoration effort continues.
