Approximately 150 personnel from neighboring utilities have arrived in the Corpus Christi North District to begin proactive work ahead of Tropical Storm Bertha, which is predicted to reach the Texas Gulf Coast later this week.
More than half of these crews will focus on tree trimming to remove overgrown vegetation around power lines that could pose a threat to operations or restoration efforts.
AEP Texas continues to actively monitor the storm’s track and is preparing in the following ways:
- Staging areas are being secured across the Corpus Christi District and as far north as Bay City.
- All planned work and scheduled maintenance outages are being reviewed for potential rescheduling so resources can remain focused on storm preparation and response.
- Logistics, including lodging and meals for additional crews that may arrive later in the week, are being planned.
AEP Texas encourages all customers to remember the following storm safety guidelines:
- Consider all downed power lines energized and dangerous. Do not touch anything in contact with the line, such as trees, fences, or puddles of water. Stay at least 10 feet away from any downed power line.
- Customers who rely on life support systems or other electrical medical equipment are reminded to have a backup plan for prolonged outages.
- Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions when using portable generators.
