AEP Texas employees in Corpus Christi helped raise $3,400 for a back-to-school shopping spree that gave 17 students $200 each to spend on new clothes and shoes at JCPenney in La Palmera.
Telecom Coordinator Pauline Teran organized the effort, which grew from helping one student to supporting five families with donations from coworkers and two RBFCU employees. The YWCA also provided each child with a bag of hygiene products.
Twenty-three employees volunteered to shop with the students. Teran said the effort helped children start the school year with confidence.
