AEP Texas External Affairs Manager Fred Guerrero and Service Mechanic Daniel Lester held a Wildfire and Electricity 101 presentation for local first responders in Coke County to keep electrical safety a priority. Although some of the firefighters in attendance have likely heard these instructions before, Lester says it served as a good reminder of how dangerous electricity can be.
“I tried to drive home three key topics: don’t touch any downed lines, call AEP so we can help make the scene safe, and keep the public and themselves safe,” Lester said. “I emphasized the importance of not touching any downed line and what the consequences could be if they were to touch an energized line.”
Lester and Guerrero hope emergency responders will continue to keep electrical safety at the top of their minds and call AEP Texas if they come across any downed power lines.
