AEP Texas line crew leader saves baby from choking

April 20, 2026

AEP Texas Line Crew Leader Miguel Zamora used first-aid training from AEP Texas to clear an infant’s airway during a family outing, and medical staff confirmed the child was stable afterward.

While attending his daughter’s dance recital, Zamora noticed a baby in a stroller struggling to breathe. He alerted the parent, obtained permission and performed the infant Heimlich maneuver he learned through AEP Texas CPR and first-aid training. He removed the obstruction and medical personnel later confirmed the baby was safe. The mother expressed gratitude for his swift response.

He said ongoing training keeps employees prepared for emergencies and encouraged colleagues to maintain their certifications. Zamora was named the March Good Catch winner by the Rio Grande Valley District Safety Committee.
