During a January Texas ice storm, Transmission Line Crew Supervisor Billy Becker saw a vehicle lose control and roll onto an access road. Although the roads looked clear of snow, hidden ice made conditions hazardous.
Becker pulled over, rushed to assist, and, with other bystanders, helped the driver unbuckle and safely get out of the car, rescued her dog, and provided jackets while waiting for 911 responders.
Becker said he stopped out of instinct — “If it were me in an accident like that, I would hope someone would stop to help me too.” The incident is a reminder to drive cautiously in winter weather and to lend help when it’s safe to do so.
