AEP Texas would like to thank our customers for their patience and trust as crews respond to power outages associated with Winter Storm Fern. AEP Texas crews continue to face freezing temperatures and severe weather conditions during the restoration effort.
We know any interruption of electric service is frustrating and inconvenient. Thank you to our customers for your understanding and support.
Alex Ramirez, AEP Texas vice president of Distribution Region Operations, said that overall outages have been managed and restored quickly.
“Our infrastructure continues to withstand the elements, which is a result of the resiliency work our crews have completed this past year,” Ramiez said. “We have a few more days of very cold weather ahead. We are confident that our system and crews are prepared to meet the remaining challenges of this winter storm.”
Crews will remain working through the duration of the storm. Customers in the AEP Texas service territory are predicted to experience severe winter weather for at least the next 24 hours.
Customers should remember the following safety guidelines:
- All downed power lines should be considered energized and dangerous. Do not touch anything in contact with the line, such as trees, fences, or ice. Keep children and pets inside during and after the storm. Stay at least 10 feet away from any downed power line.
- If you plan to use a portable generator, always follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Never use outdoor grills, generators, or stoves indoors for heating.
- Customers on life support systems or other medical equipment that relies on electricity should have a solid backup plan for areas where prolonged outages may occur.
