(CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas, March 25, 2019) – The American Electric Power (AEP) Foundation awarded a $35,000 grant to the City of Port Aransas to help fund the restoration of the Joan & Scott Holt Paradise Pond. An honorary check was presented to City of Port Aransas officials at Paradise Pond Monday.
Paradise Pond, a freshwater wetland located on approximately two acres, is a natural stop for migratory birds along their journey down the Gulf Coast. Saltwater surge and high winds from Hurricane Harvey killed many of the trees at this critical, migration stop-over site.
“The AEP Foundation focuses on three key areas that we believe have the potential of making a lasting impact in the lives of those who are reached by our corporate contributions,” Judith E. Talavera, AEP Texas president and chief operating officer, said. “These areas are educational programs, particularly those with a focus on STEM; healthcare services; and finally, environmental stewardship.
“The AEP Foundation chooses to support the Joan & Scott Holt Paradise Pond Restoration Project because of the site’s critical role in the ecosystem of this area. By helping to fund the restoration and expansion of this freshwater wetland, we have the privilege of continuing the work to rebuild our community after the devastation of Hurricane Harvey.”
