AEP Texas Restoration Update: 3-29-2018, 4:45 p.m.

AEP Texas continues to work to restore electricity to customers after a line of storms in the Coastal Bend area early Thursday left 8,350 customers without power. As of 4:45 p.m., power has been restored to 8,000 customers – or 95% of customers affected.

Restoration to most areas that remain without power is expected to be completed by 5 p.m. Some isolated outages may extend past 5 p.m.

This is the final update that will be released regarding this outage event.

Here are some important tips to remember when severe weather threatens:

- Always stay away from downed power lines, and keep others away, too. Although the line may look harmless, it could be carrying electricity.

- Report any downed utility lines to AEP Texas, the police or fire department.

- If you use a portable generator, DO NOT plug the generator into your circuit box. Portable generators “back-feed” electricity up the line and risk the lives of repair workers and the public. Plug appliances directly into the generator.

- To report an outage, call the number on your electric bill, or call toll-free 866-223-8508.

You also may visit aeptexas.com to report an outage. If an outage occurs, unplug or turn off major appliances and electronic equipment like televisions, VCRs and computers. Turn them on one at a time when power is restored. Stay tuned to local news media for updates on the storm situation and recovery progress. Updates on major outages also will be posted to our Storms and Outages page on www.AEPTexas.com.

The AEP Texas recently-launched mobile application (app) is a very effective way of reporting and monitoring power outages. The application is free of charge to download at the following internet locations:

Direct Apple App Store Link https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/aep-texas/id1263464775?ls=1&mt=8

Direct Google Play Link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aep.customerapp.aeptexas

The app provides easy access for reporting or monitoring outage information and complements the information provided by the AEP Texas Outage map, as well as AEP Texas Mobile Alerts. To learn more go to www.aeptexas.com and access the Outages & Problems area. An important point to remember that the best way to ensure that AEP Texas is aware of an outage is by using the mobile app or calling 1 866 223-8508. Mentioning an outage on social media does not mean the outage has been recorded into the AEP Texas outage system.
