As of 2:30 p.m. today the number of Laredo area residents still without power totaled approximately 415. This number compares with the approximately 21,600 customers at one point following the storm that rolled through the Laredo area around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday night. By midnight, that number had been reduced to 14,640. As of 8:30 a.m. this morning, the number of customers without power had decreased to approximately 2,700. AEP Texas will continue to restore power to the customers still without power.
Restoration of service to customers in some parts of Laredo could take until 11:30 p.m. this evening. The reason is that many of the outages, particularly in the Del Mar and other areas involve downed power lines in areas where bucket trucks do not have access. This means that crews have to resort to climbing poles in order to make repairs. There also has been an extensive amount of tree limbs and branches that have to be removed as a result of the storm. Restoration of service to customers outside of Laredo is anticipated to be complete by around 4:30 p.m., if not sooner.
