AEP Texas has announced plans for transmission upgrades to improve reliability for customers in San Patricio County and will host an open house on Thursday, June 27, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Gregory Municipal Complex Community Center located at 310 Ayers St. in Gregory, Texas, to seek public feedback about the project.
The Gregory Area Transmission Improvements Project involves rebuilding approximately one mile of a 138-kilovolt (kV) transmission line to replace a section of the existing Aransas Pass-Rincon transmission line and upgrading equipment at the Gregory Substation.
The proposed project also includes the following:
- Replacing deteriorating equipment from the 1970s addressing age-related conditions on the power line that could lead to outages for customers.
- Modernizing the electric system to allow more flexibility to address the area’s growing power demand and to ensure reliable power.
- Allowing the project team to review and identify potential shifts in the transmission line route to avoid encroachments within the existing right-of-way. This is necessary to ensure safe and reliable electric service and to meet current engineering and safety standards.
AEP Texas welcomes community and landowner feedback and engagement throughout the development of this project. The Open House is planned to solicit feedback on potential route links and to provide information about the project. No formal presentation is planned for the Open House so visitors may arrive at any time during the three-hour event to view maps and to speak to project team members.
An open house is scheduled for:
Thursday, June 27, 5-7 p.m.
Gregory Municipal Complex Community Center
310 Ayers St. Gregory, TX 78359
Landowners in the project area received a mailed invitation to the open house. Landowners who are unable to attend an in-person open house can learn more about the project or submit comments to the project team by visiting AEPTexas.com/GregoryArea.
AEP Texas officials plan to file an application for a Certificate of Convenience and Necessity with the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUC) after the open house. The PUC is expected to provide a decision on the project and, if approved, select a final line route by August 2025, with construction set to begin in early 2026.
