UPDATE:

  • At 6 a.m. Sunday, 194,400 customers were without power in Texas after Hurricane Hanna made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane within the AEP Texas service territory. This number is down from a peak number of 197,630 over the past 24 hours in the wake of the storm.
  • This number includes customers in the Corpus Christi, Laredo and Rio Grande Valley regions.
  • Additional resources are arriving to assist AEP Texas crews to restore power to the impacted areas.
  • After the storm, AEP Texas uses a process to ensure electric service is restored as quickly and as safely as possible. (See “Restoration Process” below)
  • Stay away from downed power lines. Report it by calling (866) 223-8508.

Restoration Process:

After the storm – After the storm passes, and it is safe to do so, AEP Texas crews begin hazard/damage assessment in the field and begin repairs to the electric system. If necessary, additional personnel and materials are brought in to assist in restoring power as quickly and as safely as possible. Restoration priorities are:

  1. Clear all electrical hazards

  2. Assess damaged facilities 

  3. Work to restore power to vital community facilities and services (critical load customers), including

  4. Nursing homes

  5. Water pumping plants and stations
  6. Disposal plants and lift stations

  7. Community shelters

  8. Clinics and doctors’ offices

  9. City headquarters, fire and police facilities

  10. Food centers and storage facilities

  11. Fuel pumping stations

  12. Others that may be added as necessary

  13. Restore electric service to all remaining users as quickly as possible
