Director - Customer Services
Joel S. Murphy is named director - Customer Services for AEP Texas. Murphy is responsible for Meter Revenue Operations, key account management, competitive retailer relations and customer service issues.
Murphy has over 23 years of experience in the electric utility industry in various roles of leadership. Since joining AEP in the fall of 2006, Murphy has served as the director of Projects Scheduling in the Generation, Engineering Project and Field Services organization. His responsibilities included overall administration and management of the planning and scheduling for major environmental and new generation projects. He also had responsibility for engineering schedules associated with outage and capital project work at AEP generating plants.
Murphy has an extensive background in both the transmission and distribution side of the business and in power generation. While working at Exelon Corporation, he held various positions on the regulated and unregulated sides of the business. He was a Metering Services supervisor and was directly involved with the automated meter reading deployment strategy at PECO Energy, a subsidiary of Exelon.
Murphy holds masters' degrees in Electrical Engineering and Engineering Management, as well as a bachelor of science degree in Electrical Engineering from Drexel University.
He has played an active role in civic affairs, including serving as a board member of the American Association of Blacks in Energy; the National Society of Black Engineers; the Christina Cultural Arts Center in Wilmington, Delaware; the Urban League in Philadelphia, PA; and the Mentoring Center of Central Ohio. He also was involved with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Project Mentoring Program in Columbus.
Murphy and his wife, Nanette, have three children.
