Gilbert Hughes was been named vice president, External Affairs, for AEP Texas effective November 5, 2022.

Hughes previously was director of Regulatory Services and had held that position since 2016. Before moving to that position, he served as a Governmental Affairs manager for eight years after having worked in the Regulatory Services area for eight years as a principal regulatory consultant.

He joined Central Power and Light Company in 1984 as a residential conservation service auditor in Corpus Christi and has held a variety of other positions during his years with AEP and the former CSW system, including commercial /industrial consultant, commercial program advisor, area business manager in Hebbronville, Zapata and Del Rio and key account manager in Harlingen.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Laredo State University and participated in AEP's Mid-Level Leadership program. Hughes also helped lead the AEP Texas strategic planning initiative in 2015.
