Two interns are gaining hands-on experience this summer in transmission operations, where they are helping support the electric system and building skills for future careers in the industry.
Marium Halai, a junior at the University of Texas at Austin majoring in electrical and computer engineering, is interning with Transmission Dispatch in Corpus Christi. In that role, Halai is helping support real-time operation of the transmission and distribution system in coordination with DDC, SCC and neighboring utilities. Responsibilities include monitoring and regulating system voltage and power flow, helping plan actions to restore equipment and customer service quickly and safely, preparing switching orders, creating and maintaining event logs, and recording station entry and exit activity.
Prarthana Balaji, a recent electrical engineering graduate of Texas A&M University–Kingsville, is interning with Transmission Operations Engineering in Corpus Christi. Balaji is supporting work on line derate requests, transformer derate calculations, inadequate studies, M1 outages and contingency submittals.
These internships help build the skills that will power the next generation of talent. We are excited to welcome both interns and look forward to their contributions over the coming months.
