AEP Texas proudly celebrated the graduation of 30 lineworkers, each receiving their certificates from the Department of Labor. After a four-year-long program, these former apprentices are now Class-A lineworkers. This program prepares apprentices to become Class A Line Workers and their wives and families were invited to the BBQ Man in Corpus Christi last week to celebrate their husbands’ accomplishments.
The apprenticeship includes over 8,000 hours of on-the-job training and more than 500 hours of classroom instruction. The program is divided into three levels.
- The D level consists of three classes within a year, covering basic knot tying, general safety, pole climbing, and basic electricity.
- The C level involves four classes over two years, focusing on more advanced topics like transformer theory, qualified observer substation switching, and tagging.
- The B level, completed in one year, emphasizes advanced transformer training, leadership skills, and more complex equipment.
