AEP Texas continues its long-time support of economic development across the state. Economic development leaders from Harlingen and other areas of Cameron County gathered at the San Benito Service Center to better understand how the electric system works and how it connects to projects in their communities.

One major focus was the future of the grid and how AEP Texas is moving forward with a 765 kV transmission line. The project was recently approved by the Public Utility Commission of Texas. Director of Customer Experience Matt Gerick, and External Affairs Manager Hill Cocke say the investments in the grid today means stronger opportunities for economic development in the future.

Other topics included ERCOT's grid, and the difference between distribution and transmission power. The Harlingen Economic Development Corporation and the Cameron County economic development team learned how those systems affect new projects and business growth.
