Parents gathered at Texas State Technical College (TSTC) to watch their sons and daughters showcase the skills they've learned in the Electrical Lineworker and Management Technology Program. AEP Texas and Distribution System Supervisor Javier Garcia's team are a big part of the program and were there supporting students with bucket trucks, tools, PPE and field advice.
Parents watched 73 students climb poles, rig equipment, and practice safety drills with their peers. Two young women stood out from the crowd and found themselves breaking stereotypes before their parent's eyes.
Angel Toledo, TSTC program team lead and former lineworker at the Brownsville Public Utilities Board, thanked AEP Texas for supporting the program with funds, equipment, and hands-on training.
"They are ready," Toledo said. "Our program is designed our first year lineman level so our graduates are able to assist any lineman in the field."
