With hurricane season approaching on June 1, AEP Texas is committed to being a vital first responder, ready to restore electric service swiftly and safely after storms. Recently, over 50 local elected officials and emergency management professionals gathered at the AEP Transmission Operation Center in Corpus Christi for a preparedness meeting organized by the Texas Public Utility Commission and the Texas Division of Emergency Management. The event focused on AEP Texas' hurricane restoration strategies, including updates on the outage map and the process of a transmission “black start.”
In addition, the Port of Corpus Christi Authority (POCCA) hosted its annual hurricane preparedness summit with AEP Texas, bringing together representatives from the top 20 employers in the Coastal Bend. During this event, AEP Texas shared insights on the Emergency Preparedness Plan and critical load management, emphasizing the importance of consistent communication of emergency information among employers to empower employees in sharing updates within their communities.

Nueces County Judge Connie Scott highlighted the significance of aligning hurricane preparations across various sectors, stating, “Today’s meeting fosters essential communication among emergency officials, businesses, and residents.” As hurricane season approaches, AEP Texas remains dedicated to enhancing community resilience and ensuring that stakeholders are well-prepared to respond effectively to any storm-related challenges.
