AEP Texas employess spotted an owl walking around the yard at the Bessel Substation—just outside of Banquete, west of Corpus Christi—and immediately called the AEP Texas Environmental Services Department for assitance. 

The owl was transported safely to the Texas SeaLife Center in Corpus Christi with the help of AEP Texas Environmental Coordinator Consultant Nancy Hutton, Rolando Gonzalez, the employee who helped with the rescue, Environmental Specialist Principal Shannon T. Hemmerly, and Station Supervisor Ismael Valdez.

AEP Texas follows an official Avian Protection Program that helps identify risks and protect birds near power equipment. AEP also checks in on the birds after they're handed off. Rehabilitators often share updates on social media.
