No matter your situation—moving into an existing home, building a new one, transferring or stopping service—we are here to help you understand your next step. Because Texas is a deregulated market, your Retail Electric Provider (REP) manages your electricity account, billing, and service requests. AEP Texas delivers the power, maintains the poles and wires, and keeps your service reliable.

Below is a simple guide to help you figure out what to do next.

If electricity is already available at your new address, starting service is easy.

  • Contact the Retail Electric Provider (REP) you want to use. They will set up your account and send the request to AEP Texas to activate service. If you need help choosing a REP, visit PowerToChoose.org or call 1-866-PWR-4-TEX (1-866-797-4839).

Request new service

If you’re leaving one address and starting service at another:

  • Contact your current REP to end service at your old address.
  • Use that REP (or pick a new one) to start service at your new address. They will send all requests to us.

We reconnect service only after we receive authorization from your REP.

  • Contact your REP to pay your bill or resolve the issue. They will send us the order to restore power.

If you're moving out and no longer need electricity at your location:

  • Contact your REP to schedule service disconnection. Their phone number is listed on your electric bill.
