Electricity theft happens when someone diverts electric current or tampers with electric meters, which measure a customer's electrical usage. That includes attempts to stop, under-register or bypass a meter.

Because it is dangerous and costly, we work hard to reduce theft of electricity in our communities.

In Texas, stealing more than $1500 worth of electricity is a felony. Stealing less is a Class A Misdemeanor.
Our meters are capable of reporting meter-tampering to the utility.
Our employees are trained to monitor and identify all signs and types of meter tampering.
