AEP Texas continues to actively monitor Tropical Storm Bertha.
AEP Texas is taking proactive steps to prepare for a range of potential impacts. Local personnel across the coastal region are actively monitoring conditions, reviewing response plans and preparing equipment and facilities. The company has also begun securing additional crews and resources to support restoration efforts, if needed. Current forecasts indicate tropical weather could begin affecting portions of the AEP Texas service area by Friday.
AEP Texas is actively monitoring the pattern. In addition, we are preparing in the following ways:
- Tree trimming crews will engage in increased vegetation management in coastal communities along the Texas Gulf Coast beginning Tuesday. This proactive activity will protect electrical facilities where trees or limbs could potentially pose threats to operations or restoration.
- Staging areas are being secured across the Corpus Christi District as far south as Robstown and as far north as Bay City.
- All planned work or planned maintenance outages are being evaluated and assessed for rescheduling as all resources would be focused on the tropical depression.
AEP Texas encourages all customers to remember the following storm safety guidelines:
- Consider all downed power lines energized and dangerous. Do not touch anything in contact with the line, such as trees, fences, or puddles of water. Stay at least 10 feet away from any downed power line.
- Customers who rely on life support systems or other electrical medical equipment are reminded to have a backup plan for prolonged outages.
- Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions when using portable generators.
