AEP Texas Restoration Update
West Texas Winter Storm
10-28-2020 – 4:30 p.m.
AEP Texas crews are continuing restoration efforts in response to a winter storm that began in parts of west Texas on Tuesday.
As of 4:30 p.m., approximately 9,700 customers remained without power within the Abilene District, as compared to approximately 14,400 at 10:30 this morning.
“This was one of the worst ice storms in recent history over such a broad area,” said Greg Blair, manager of External Affairs and Customer Service. “The ice played havoc with many tree branches, which then came into contact with our power lines. We’re making steady progress and appreciate the continued patience and support from our customers.”
Approximately 380 line mechanics, tree-trimmers, assessors and others are involved in the restoration effort.

These preliminary estimates may change as restoration efforts continue and are projections for restoration of service to most customers, who can take power. There are a significant number of individual outages that will have to be addressed on a one-to-one basis and will require additional time to restore service.
