(Tuesday, August 11, 2020) -- AEP Texas has completed its rebuild of a two-mile segment of a transmission line in Edinburg and has withdrawn its ongoing appeal for conservation throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

On August 1, crews began work to rebuild the line segment damaged by Hurricane Hanna. Crews completed construction then energized the transmission line on Monday evening -- four days earlier than the original August 14 target date. 

During construction, AEP Texas worked with the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) to mitigate the situation and continue serving area customers.  However, these mitigations still left the area’s electric grid in a strained situation.  Consequently, AEP Texas voluntarily launched an ongoing appeal for energy conservation throughout the Valley to avoid the possibility of power disruptions. 

“We thank customers who participated in conservation measures,” said Lee Jones, AEP Texas manager of community affairs and customer services.  “It’s clear those efforts made a difference.”
