VILLAGE OF SOMERSET JOINS AEP OHIO IN COMMUNITY ENERGY SAVERS PROGRAM

July 29, 2014

SOMERSET, Ohio, July 29, 2014 – AEP Ohio, a unit of American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP), and the Village of Somerset are partnering to help residents and businesses reduce energy use and costs through the Community Energy Savers pilot program.

Community Energy Savers, launched by AEP Ohio, works with communities to encourage residents and businesses to participate in energy efficiency programs offered by AEP Ohio. Not only do community members benefit from saving energy and money in their homes and businesses, their actions also help the community receive incentives from AEP Ohio that can be put towards an improvement project identified by the community.

"AEP Ohio continually seeks to improve the quality of life in the communities where we live and work. That’s why we are enthusiastic about joining with communities in our new Energy Savers program,” said Jon Williams, energy efficiency and consumer programs manager for AEP Ohio.  “The program helps to educate residents about our energy-saving programs as well as the many solutions and incentives available for businesses.”

Mayor Tom Johnson and his team will make a formal announcement on the Village of Somerset’s participation in the AEP Ohio Community Energy Savers pilot program during the Farmers Market that takes place on August 2.

Working with AEP Ohio, the Village of Somerset has established a goal of 144 participation points by October 31. If this goal is reached in time, Somerset will use the financial incentive award from AEP Ohio towards the implementation of energy efficiency lighting and other improvement projects at the Girls Softball Park.

“We are excited to partner with AEP Ohio on Somerset Energy Savers to continue and express our commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability efforts. To help the Girls Softball Park with a financial incentive for improvement projects at the park is a bonus,” says Mayor Tom Johnson of Somerset.

Somerset residents and businesses who are customers of AEP Ohio, and who receive their generation supply from AEP Ohio or a different electric generation service provider, can participate in Energy Savers in a variety of ways. For instance, customers can recycle their inefficient, but still operational refrigerators through the Appliance Recycling program and receive a $60 incentive check plus free pickup through August 31, or $50 after this date. Customers can also schedule an assessment with the In-home Energy program to identify and correct areas in their homes where they may be wasting energy. Technical support and financial incentives are also available for business customers and owners of multifamily buildings that install energy efficient equipment and technologies.
