PSO Summer Teacher Workshop Explores Science

March 20, 2006

Public Service Company of Oklahoma and parent company American Electric Power will sponsor the 6th Experimental Design workshop for Oklahoma science teachers across the state who instruct grades 5-12.

Experimental Design: An Introductory Course in Scientific Inquiry is scheduled June 13 – 15 at Tulsa Public Schools’ Fulton Learning Center in Tulsa. The workshop, which is free to science teachers, includes a tour of a PSO power plant and incorporates practical strategies into science classrooms and competitions.

The session includes content that aligns with state-mandated science process PASS standards. PASS stands for Priority Academic Student Skills. Teachers from across Oklahoma are eligible to attend.

Participants receive instructional materials to help teach experimental design; the book, Students and Research, by Cothron, Giese and Rezba; and learned practical strategies for conducting experimental research, authentic assessment and working with parents.
