AEP Texas reminds consumers about National Hurricane Preparedness Week

April 28, 2022

(APRIL 28, 2022) -- May 1st through 7th marks National Hurricane Preparedness Week.  The observance emphasizes the message that now is time to prepare for Hurricane Season, which begins June 1st and concludes Nov. 30th.

Beginning Sunday, AEP Texas will be posting info graphics on its Facebook and Twitter social media pages.   The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) developed these messages:

  • Determine your risk.
  • Develop an evacuation plan.
  • Assemble disaster supplies.
  • Get an insurance checkup.
  • Strengthen your home.
  • Help your neighbor.
  • Complete a written plan.

Social media posts will cover one of these topics each day.  Additional information is available at https://www.aeptexas.com/safety/.

In the meantime, AEP Texas is reviewing its own hurricane plan to ensure that all employees and business partners know their assigned roles during events leading up to, during a storm, and during the restoration effort.

Please remember that customers on life support or other medical equipment that relies on electricity need to have a backup plan in the event of an extended outage.  Now is the time to prepare.
