Due to continued freezing temperatures, very high demand, and unseasonably low wind, operating reserves are expected to be low during the morning hours of Monday, January 15. As a result, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) is asking Texans to conserve electricity use, if safe to do so, Monday, January 15, from 6 a.m. – 10 a.m. CT.

CORPUS CHRISTI (January 11, 2024) – AEP Texas is preparing for an approaching winter weather pattern that is expected to bring freezing temperatures to most of Texas. The storm is predicted to affect all districts in the AEP Texas service territory. We continue to monitor the weather system closely as it develops.

As the holiday season enters its full swing, AEP Texas reminds customers to stay alert and know the signs of a utility scam. In November, AEP Texas responded to reports that scammers contacted residents threatening to disconnect their electric service unless an immediate payment was made. In addition, scammers contacted customers indicating the need to change the electric meter and asked for payment to cover the cost of the upgrade.

(Austin, TX) – As efforts continue to prepare the grid for the upcoming winter season, ERCOT today announced that a new group of weatherization inspectors have completed the Certified Weatherization Inspector (CWI) program and will immediately be deployed into the field to begin inspections of electric generation units and transmission facilities.

AEP Texas to temporarily close road shoulders on I-37 near Leopard St. in Corpus Christi

Weather permitting, AEP Texas crews will temporarily close road shoulders in 15-minute increments on Interstate Highway 37 between Leopard Street and Corn Products Road from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning Monday, Dec. 4, to Thursday, Dec. 14.
